Healthcare professionals

The Patient Insurance Association receives about 6000 claims a year. Approximately one in four patients receive a positive recognition of their case.

Anyone who is being treated in the public or private healthcare system is covered by the Danish Act on the Right to Complain and Receive Compensation within the Health Service.

Patients have the possibility to receive compensation for injuries caused by treatment and examinations or by drugs.

This right to compensation is not based on whether a healthcare professional has assumed responsibility for the injury due to an error on the professional’s part.

The Patient Insurance Association does not consider whether an error has been made. We only consider whether there is an injury which should be covered.

The Patient Insurance Association is therefore a "no fault" compensation scheme.
